  1. Hi Everyone!

I have come across a few articles and videos that I found interesting and wanted to pass them on to the class through this blog (I will also post them on the class Facebook site). Each article/video relates to something that we have talked about in class or that is relevant to the issues our class discusses.

I wanted to post these links before I accumulated too many! Meeting one time a week is not enough time to share all of the new (and old) world events and issues that relate to peace building and international social work!

    Here's the list:

1.Here's an journal article that talks about the gang rape that happened in India in December 2012 (it came up in discussion in one of our classes). This article was published on 3/2/15 and has some quotes from one of the men from the group that was convicted of rapping and killing the 23 yr old girl. A documentary about this case is being released on Sunday (International Women's Day). The documentary is called "India's Daughter".

    2. Nadine Burke Harris: "How Trauma Affects Health Across a Lifetime".

    3. Michael Green: "What the Social Progress Index can reveal about your country"...This Ted Talk I find interesting to compare it to Amartya Sen's "Justice as Freedom".

Enjoy! I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about these.

Also, I hope the weather is still nice in Lithuania! The forecast for Chicago says that we will finally be getting some 40 degree (fahrenheit) weather next week!

    Peace,

    Cordelia

  2. The reference to Amaryta Sen should be "Development as Freedom", not "Justice as Freedom".
